CleanUpNOLA: Uniting New Orleans for a Cleaner, Safer, and More Beautiful City

New Orleans is a city unlike any other—rich in culture, history, music, and community pride. But like any vibrant urban area, it faces challenges keeping its streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces clean and safe. That’s where CleanUpNOLA comes in: a citywide initiative that’s bringing together multiple City departments and everyday residents with one shared mission—to make New Orleans shine.

What is CleanUpNOLA?

Launched as a comprehensive effort by the City of New Orleans, CleanUpNOLA is more than just a beautification campaign. It’s a collaborative movement that spans across various City departments, including Sanitation, Public Works, Parks & Parkways, Code Enforcement, and NOPD—joined by local organizations and passionate citizens.

CleanUpNOLA focuses on four main pillars:

  1. Blight Removal & Property Maintenance

  2. Litter Abatement & Waste Management

  3. Stormwater Drainage & Flood Prevention

  4. Public Engagement & Education

Each cleanup event or improvement project is designed to not only address current issues but also to encourage long-term responsibility and pride in our city’s appearance.

A Collaborative Citywide Effort

CleanUpNOLA is about breaking silos. Departments work hand-in-hand to identify problem areas, organize neighborhood sweeps, clear illegal dumping sites, trim overgrown lots, and repair or replace damaged infrastructure. Meanwhile, residents and community groups are empowered to take ownership of their blocks through volunteer cleanups, reporting issues via 311, and attending neighborhood meetings.

This is not just government-led—it’s community-driven.

Why It Matters

Cleaner streets don’t just look good—they impact everything from public safety to economic development. Studies have shown that well-maintained neighborhoods experience:

  • Lower crime rates

  • Improved property values

  • Healthier living environments

  • Greater civic engagement

In New Orleans, where tourism is a key industry and cultural pride runs deep, maintaining clean, welcoming public spaces is critical to how we present ourselves to the world—and how we care for each other.

How You Can Get Involved

Whether you're a homeowner, renter, business owner, or student, there’s a role for everyone in CleanUpNOLA:

  • Join a Neighborhood Cleanup: Look for city-sponsored events or organize one with your neighbors.

  • Report Issues to 311: See illegal dumping or storm drain blockages? Report it via the City’s 311 system.

  • Adopt-A-Spot: Take responsibility for maintaining a nearby green space, corner, or block.

  • Spread the Word: Follow @CleanUpNOLA on social media and share your efforts with the hashtag #CleanUpNOLA.

A Cleaner NOLA Starts With Us

CleanUpNOLA isn’t just about picking up trash—it’s about building pride, strengthening neighborhoods, and fostering a shared sense of stewardship over the spaces we all call home.

Together, we can keep New Orleans looking as beautiful and resilient as the spirit of its people.
